What are the Benefits of Suspension Training?

03.21.2011

By now I am sure most of you have seen some people training on those black and yellow straps hanging in our gym.  This piece of equipment is called TRX Suspension Training, created by a NAVY SEAL.  As he tried to find a way to keep his fellow SEALS in great shape in remote areas of the world, he came up with the idea of the TRX Suspension Training System.

It was originally created with parachute webbing and a karate belt.  The idea is to use our body weight as our resistance level, depending on how close or far away from our anchor point we are will change the difficulty of the exercise.  We have a wide demographic currently using the TRX.  I tend to use the TRX with many of my clients, whether they are training for a marathon or in need of corrective exercise.  Many people are dealing with some type of injury these days due to sedentary lifestyles or not using proper form during exercises.  It is great for people with injuries because I can always make easy adjustments to make the exercise comfortable and pain free.  My favorite part of TRX training is the quick transition to different exercises and the fact that we are using our core throughout the entire workout.
